Nursing†¦.A Way of Life Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations (ANA, 2014). To practice nursing, one should be able to provide care that is based on biological, psychological and social sciences that affect the body as a whole. Nursing must be approached with both compassion and knowledge. The professional nurse should practice ethically, legally and morally, as well as provide care based on the knowledge from studies. They must be able to promote health and prevent disease by providing physical care, support, education, and resources available to all ages and cultures within the community. A nurse should maintain truthfulness to thy self and those around, and understand the nature and meaning of life. Nursing is more than what we can learn from our textbooks. As a nurse we must continue to gain knowledge to be proficient in our field. We must have strong values, respect for human life, compassion for suffering and empathy. The role of the nurse is not only nursing the ill or injured, but providing support to extended family members and other medical professionals. A nurse is the adhesive that holds the management of medical treatment, as a whole, together. The Effects of Noise Pollution Have you ever considered that several of the noises you hear are noise pollution? The thought of pollution, to the majority of people, brings reflections of chemical spills, radiation, and holes in the ozone layer, and noise is usually last on the list. The term noise pollution is the term used to describe environmental pollution that deals with annoying or harmful noises and is constantly happening(1). Some common examples of noise pollution, that many people take for granite, are lawn mowers, airplanes, and car alarms. Noise pollution should be taken seriously because it can cause permanent hearing loss. According to a report from the Office of Noise Abatement and Control, millions of people are†¦show more content†¦ASHA reports that, in the United States alone, more than 20 million citizens are exposed to enough noise pollution to damage their hearing, 28 million Americans have already suffered hearing loss, and about 20 million Americans are exposed to hearing loss at their work places(3). According to ASHA, hearing loss can be caused by a single exposure, long-term exposure, or from extended exposure to moderate noise(4). For example, single exposure to an extremely loud noise would be a gun shot that can be as high as 140 decibels. Another example a long-term exposure hearing loss would be working in a factory over an extended period of time where noise is induced gradually, painlessly, and permanently. Listening to the stereo to load would be an example of a moderate noise. Hearing loss can be caused by the littlest noises; for example, if a child holds a squeakier toy next to his ear, this could cause hearing loss. Some hearing loss cannot be helped with hearing aides, like damage from working in a factory, and for others it can help a little. According to Nancy Nadler, director of the Noise Center at the League for the Hard Hearing, noise pollution can cause much more than just hearing loss. Music began to play through the beakers of the classroom and it was an old tragically hip song that I was quite familiar with. It brought me back to a time when I was younger and that extraordinary band was all that was played throughout my house on the cassette player or stereo. Music has always triggered so many memories from the past for me and always brings a smile to my face when I think of something wonderful that happened when I was around those melodies or lyrics. I and all I could remember was owing across the confederation bridge and listening to the entire tragically hip album. It blows my mind thinking of how I was such a young age but just because of this one tune heard during class, I remember a big pile of amazing memories. It turned today’s gloomy day into a happy one that’s for sure. Day 2, Wednesday It’s been a few days since my last Journal. Today some more music in the classroom was playing that I knew and it was the band blue rodeo a song called Hasn’t Hit Me Yet. More memories came back from hearing this song because my parents told me tones of how they fell In love at this band’s concert. For some reason I have always felt that I was one of the few people In and around my age group that recognized and still enjoyed older music that was heard from when we were younger. Since most people my age listen strictly to rap or pop music we were both humbled and pleased that we knew this older, less recognized by our age group song.
